Impel AI Alternatives for Dealerships: Four AI Agent Options Compared

Compare four Impel AI alternatives for dealers on who approves AI messages, CRM and DMS fit, consent and pricing, plus a 30-day trial test plan.

Buyer's guide · AutoAILeads

The best Impel AI alternative depends on which Impel agents your dealership uses and how much the AI should send without a person checking it first. Matador AI, Conversica and Fullpath sell AI agents that reply and follow up on their own, while Shiftix Cloud's Aria AI Assistant drafts messages inside a CRM for staff to review.

At a glance

  • Matador AI suits car and powersports dealers that want text, call, chat, email and Instagram agents that stop the moment a salesperson joins the thread, with two-way sync to a long list of named dealer CRMs.
  • Conversica suits car dealers that want AI agents to work sales, service and finance conversations by email, text and chat, in several languages, alongside DealerSocket, CDK or VinSolutions.
  • Fullpath suits car dealers that want AI agents built on a customer data platform, with escalation rules that pass a conversation to a person when it meets set criteria.
  • Shiftix Cloud suits auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers that want AI help inside a CRM and Unified Customer Inbox, with staff reviewing AI drafts before they are sent.
  • None of the four vendor pages we read describes a one-for-one replacement for every Impel product, so list the Impel agents your store relies on before you book any demo.

How we compared Impel alternatives

We compared four alternatives to Impel on the same criteria, using each vendor's own website read on October 26, 2026. Shiftix Cloud publishes this guide and is one of the products compared.

  • How options were chosen: the pages that rank for Impel searches are mostly software directories, such as the Stork.AI list of Impel alternatives and the Capterra listing for Impel, which mix general CRMs with dealer tools. We chose vendors whose own pages describe AI agents that talk to dealership customers: Matador AI, Conversica, Fullpath and Shiftix Cloud.
  • Evidence: each vendor's product, solution and integrations pages. Nothing was tested first-hand, and no vendor reviewed this guide.
  • Criteria: who the product is built for, which AI agents it describes, channels, who approves AI messages, how a conversation passes to staff, named CRM and DMS integrations, what the pages say about consent, whether pricing is published, and who the option suits.
  • "Not stated" means the pages we read did not cover a point. It does not mean the product lacks it.
  • No prices. We say only whether each vendor publishes pricing on its own site.

What Impel offers dealers, according to Impel

Impel sells dealerships a set of AI agents for sales, service, chat, voice, marketing and merchandising, and says it is "Trusted by 8,000 Dealers and OEMs in 50+ Countries." Knowing which of those agents your store actually uses tells you what an alternative has to cover.

  • Sales AI: the Impel Sales AI page says it is "autonomously working every lead, in your voice, across every channel," using "SMS + email orchestration." When a person is needed, it creates "a fully customized action brief for the assigned rep."
  • Review of AI messages: the same page says "Every AI interaction is logged, reviewable, and available to your team." It does not describe staff approving messages before they are sent.
  • Service AI: the Impel Service AI page says each initiative "can run across email, SMS, direct mail, AI Email, and AI SMS," and that it "writes appointments back to your scheduler in real time."
  • Voice AI: the Impel Voice AI page describes a service-department agent that "Answers every inbound service call live, day or night."
  • Merchandising: the Impel home page lists 360 WalkArounds, Feature Tour, Video Tour and AI image enhancement for vehicle pages. None of the four alternatives below describes an equivalent, so plan for these separately if you use them.
  • Who it serves: the home page names franchise dealers, dealer groups, OEMs, agencies and specialty dealers selling RVs, commercial trucks, motorcycles and marine craft.
  • Integrations: the Impel integrations page shows CDK Global, DealerSocket, Reynolds and Reynolds, VinSolutions, Dealertrack, PBS Systems and others, without saying what data moves in each direction.
  • Pricing: not published on Impel's own site, which offers "Book a Demo."

Who approves what the AI sends: three levels of control

The biggest difference between Impel alternatives is not the channel list but how much the AI may send before a person sees it. Vendor pages use words like "autonomous," "assistant" and "handoff" loosely, so it helps to sort each product into one of three levels and then confirm the level in a demo.

  • Level 1, draft and approve: the AI writes a reply and a staff member reviews, edits and sends it. This is the slowest option after hours, and the safest for prices, trade values and payment talk.
  • Level 2, reply with rules and handoff: the AI answers on its own within rules the store sets, then stops or escalates when a person joins or a trigger is met, such as a pricing question or an angry customer.
  • Level 3, autonomous follow-up: the AI runs whole sequences on its own and staff review the logs afterwards.

Based only on the pages we read, Impel's Sales AI describes Level 3 with an action brief for the rep. Matador AI and Fullpath describe Level 2 handoff rules. Conversica's automotive page describes routing ready buyers to staff without saying more. Shiftix Cloud describes Level 1 review before sending. Many products let a store mix levels, for example Level 2 after hours and Level 1 during the day, so ask each vendor to show the setting rather than describe it.

AI agent alternatives to Impel: Matador AI, Conversica and Fullpath

Matador AI, Conversica and Fullpath are the closest Impel alternatives in kind, because each sells AI agents that answer and follow up with customers on their own. Each is described below with the same criteria, from that vendor's own pages in October 2026.

Matador AI

  • What it is: a set of AI agents for dealership sales and service, described on the Matador AI home page as "Five AI agents that never stop selling": AI Engage, AI Reply, AI Follow-Up, Call AI and Chat AI.
  • Built for: car dealerships, with a powersports solution page. RV and marine dealers are not mentioned on the pages we read.
  • Channels: text, voice, chat, email and Instagram, sharing "one memory and playbook."
  • Who approves AI messages: not stated as a staff approval step. The home page says "Multiple checks for accuracy, relevance, compliance, and context" run before messages reach customers.
  • Handoff: the Matador AI sales page says "the AI stops messaging on that thread rather than talking over your team," and the reply delay "is configurable per lead source."
  • Service: the Matador AI service page says "Every service call gets answered, 24 hours a day," with reminders for overdue service, declined work and open recalls based on DMS data.
  • CRM and DMS integrations: the Matador AI integrations page lists Activix, DealerCX, DealerPeak and TMS as CRMs, with eLead, VinSolutions and DealerSocket as certified partners, and says "Two-way sync: conversations, appointments and lead ownership stay in step with your CRM." It lists Dealertrack, Reynolds and Reynolds, CDK Drive, PBS Systems, Tekion and Titan DMS, with repair order data "read straight from the DMS."
  • Consent: not stated on the sales page we read.
  • Pricing: not published; the site offers a demo.
  • Who it suits: car and powersports dealers that want automatic replies across many channels and a clear rule that the AI steps back when a salesperson takes over.

Conversica

  • What it is: a conversational AI company with an automotive industry page describing AI agents for dealerships.
  • Built for: car dealerships on that page; Conversica's main site serves sales and marketing teams in many industries.
  • Channels: "24/7 conversations across email, SMS, chat—in multiple languages."
  • What the agents do: schedule test drives, re-engage cold internet leads, "Respond to service inquiries in real time," schedule maintenance or recalls, and "Qualify financing needs and collect trade-in details."
  • Who approves AI messages: not stated.
  • Handoff: the page says the agents "Route ready buyers to your finance team instantly" but does not describe handoff rules.
  • CRM and DMS integrations: "We integrate with DealerSocket, CDK, VinSolutions, and more."
  • Consent: not stated on the automotive page.
  • Pricing: not published; the page offers a call with the team.
  • Who it suits: car dealers that want one AI vendor across sales, service and early finance conversations, especially stores that need several languages.

Fullpath

  • What it is: a customer data and experience platform for car dealers with a set of AI agents. The Fullpath overview page says "2,000+ top North American car dealerships choose Fullpath."
  • Built for: car dealerships only; the Fullpath AI solutions page describes the product as designed exclusively for car dealerships.
  • AI agents: a Lead Handling Agent that "Manages inbound leads using intelligent, two-way SMS and email outreach," a Voice Agent for "on- and off-hour phone interactions," a Task Builder Agent for CRM tasks, an Omni Agent for inventory questions, and agents for ad copy and SMS quality checks. An Agentic CRM is listed as a limited release.
  • Who approves AI messages: not stated as an approval step before sending.
  • Handoff: the Fullpath lead handling page says "Conversations that meet your pre-defined escalation criteria are immediately escalated to humans," and staff can take over a conversation.
  • CRM and DMS integrations: no partners are named on the Fullpath integrations page, which describes "ingesting partner data." The lead handling page says it pushes call logs, conversation summaries and appointments into your CRM.
  • Consent: not stated on the pages we read.
  • Pricing: not published; the site offers a demo.
  • Who it suits: car dealers that want AI agents tied to shopper data and advertising, and that are comfortable confirming integrations with their own CRM and DMS during the sales process.

Shiftix Cloud as an Impel alternative: AI drafts that staff approve

Shiftix Cloud takes a different approach from Impel, putting the Aria AI Assistant inside a CRM and inbox where staff review AI drafts. The same criteria apply.

  • What it is: a Customer Operations Platform with a CRM, Unified Customer Inbox, Aria AI Assistant, Signal Call Intelligence, Improved Service Communications and other capabilities. Shiftix Cloud is not a DMS; it works alongside your DMS, ERP and accounting systems.
  • Built for: auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers.
  • Channels: the Unified Customer Inbox page lists phone, email, SMS, website forms, Facebook Messenger and live chat.
  • Who approves AI messages: the Aria AI Assistant page lists "Human-controlled team review before sending" and says "Staff remains responsible for communication and decisions." The same page says Aria AI Assistant "replies to new leads in under a minute, day or night," so ask Shiftix to show exactly which replies, if any, your configuration sends without approval.
  • Calls: Signal Call Intelligence reviews sales conversations for coaching, as described on the Signal Call Intelligence page. Shiftix Cloud does not describe an AI agent that answers phone calls, which matters if you rely on Impel's Voice AI.
  • Service: the service page says Aria AI Assistant prepares "review-ready updates based on the repair order, ready for advisor approval before sending."
  • CRM and DMS integrations: the CRM is built in. The Shiftix Cloud integrations page lists DMS integrations including CDK (Drive), Reynolds and Reynolds, Dealertrack, Tekion, Lightspeed, PBS and others, and says "data direction, permissions, and setup are confirmed during implementation."
  • Consent: the communications page says the first text to a contact includes "the required business name and opt-out disclosure," and that STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE and equivalent keywords are "recognized, persisted, and honored permanently."
  • Pricing: published on the Shiftix Cloud pricing page; cost depends on users, rooftops, modules and messaging capacity.
  • Who it suits: dealers in any of the four verticals that want AI help inside the same CRM and inbox their staff work in, and that prefer a person to approve AI drafts over fully automatic follow-up.

Consent rules apply to AI agents exactly as they apply to staff, and the dealership, not only the vendor, is responsible for the messages sent in its name. Every vendor above says something different, or nothing, about consent on the pages we read, so check these points in writing before go-live. This is general information, not legal advice; confirm details with your counsel.

  • AI voice calls: the FCC ruled in February 2024 that calls made with AI-generated voices count as "artificial" voices under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, as the FCC announcement states. As Cooley's summary of the ruling explains, such calls fall under the TCPA's prior express consent requirement. Ask any vendor whose AI places outbound calls how consent is captured and stored.
  • Opt-outs across systems: when a customer texts STOP to the AI, confirm the opt-out reaches your CRM, your service texting tool and any other system that can message that customer.
  • Texting registration: business texting from local numbers usually needs 10DLC brand and campaign registration. Our 10DLC registration guide for dealerships covers the steps.
  • Call recording: if an AI agent records or transcribes calls, check your state's consent rule. Our call recording laws guide for dealerships explains one-party and all-party consent.
  • What the AI may say: write down whether the AI may quote prices, payments, trade values, availability or incentives, and test those limits during the trial.

A 30-day trial test plan for any Impel alternative

A 30-day trial plan lets a dealership judge an Impel alternative on its own leads instead of on vendor case studies. Impel's Sales AI page, like most vendor pages, publishes percentage improvements without describing how they were measured, so treat every vendor's results as claims to test. The plan below is a method we recommend, not a vendor requirement.

Before day 1: set the baseline

  • Pick one lead source or one department for the trial, such as third-party internet leads or service calls.
  • Pull the last 30 days for that source from your CRM: median first response time, contact rate, appointments set, appointments shown and opt-outs. Our lead response time benchmarks guide explains how to measure response time consistently.
  • Write the rules: topics the AI may not discuss, when it must hand off, business hours and after-hours behavior, and who on staff owns each handoff.

Week 1: review everything

  • Run the AI on approval or shadow mode if the vendor offers one, so a manager sees every message before or as it goes out.
  • Log every error by type: wrong vehicle or stock status, a promise about price or payment, a missed opt-out, a reply after a salesperson had already taken over, or an unclear handoff.

Weeks 2 and 3: go live on one source

  • Switch on the control level you intend to keep, for the trial source only.
  • Each day, read a sample of conversations, for example 20, and keep the error log going.
  • Check that appointments, notes and opt-outs land in your CRM and scheduler without double entry.

Week 4: compare and decide

  • Compare the trial month with the baseline on the same five numbers.
  • Export the conversation logs and confirm you could take them with you if you left.
  • Set your own pass line before the trial starts, such as zero missed opt-outs and no unapproved price quotes, and hold every vendor to it.

If you want an outside view of where leads stall before you run a trial, the complimentary Revenue Leak Audit looks at lead response, follow-up and conversion with no obligation.

Which Impel alternative should you choose?

The right Impel alternative follows from three decisions: how much the AI may send without approval, whether you need AI to answer phone calls, and which vehicle types and CRM your stores run.

  • Wanting AI replies on every channel that stop when a salesperson joins: compare Matador AI, and check its CRM list against yours.
  • Wanting AI across sales, service and finance questions in several languages: compare Conversica.
  • Wanting AI agents tied to shopper data and ad campaigns: compare Fullpath, and ask which CRM and DMS it connects to.
  • Wanting a person to approve AI drafts inside the CRM: compare Shiftix Cloud, and ask each vendor to show its approval setting in the demo.
  • Needing AI to answer service calls: Impel, Matador AI and Fullpath describe voice agents; Shiftix Cloud and Conversica's automotive page do not.
  • Selling RVs, boats or powersports: check which vendors name your vertical. Shiftix Cloud serves all four, and Matador AI has a powersports page.
  • Not sure AI is the fix: measure first. Our speed to lead research summary and missed call text-back guide show where leads are lost before any AI sees them.

Frequently asked questions

What is Impel AI?

Impel is an automotive AI company that sells dealerships AI agents for sales, service, chat, voice, marketing and vehicle merchandising. Its website says it is trusted by 8,000 dealers and OEMs in more than 50 countries. Impel's Sales AI follows up on leads by text and email and passes a summary to a salesperson when a person is needed, while its Service AI and Voice AI handle service outreach and calls.

Does Impel publish its pricing?

No. Impel's own website did not show prices in October 2026 and asks dealers to book a demo. Software directories such as Capterra list a starting figure, but confirm any number with Impel in writing. AI agent cost for dealerships usually depends on the number of rooftops, the agents chosen, message and call volume, and integrations.

Does Impel work for RV, marine and powersports dealers?

Partly, by Impel's own description. Impel's home page lists specialty vehicle dealers, naming RVs, commercial trucks, motorcycles and marine craft, but the pages we read did not describe features specific to those dealers. Ask Impel and any alternative to show integrations with the DMS and lead sources your RV, boat or powersports store uses.

Can an AI agent replace a dealership BDC?

An AI agent can take over routine first replies, reminders and follow-up, but none of the vendor pages we read claims to remove the need for people. Every product compared here describes passing conversations to staff, and someone still has to own appointments, handle upset customers, and check that the AI follows the store's rules. Most dealers use AI to extend a BDC rather than replace it.

Before you switch AI vendors, it helps to know where leads are being lost today. The Revenue Leak Audit is complimentary, with no obligation and no software purchase required. Shiftix reviews lead response, follow-up, conversion, customer retention, accountability and workflow, then walks through the findings with you.
