Podium Alternatives for Dealerships: Texting, Reviews and What You Give Up
Compare four Podium alternatives for dealers on texting, reviews, payments, AI control and DMS links, plus a checklist for leaving Podium's 12-month contract.
The best Podium alternative for a dealership depends on which Podium jobs your store relies on: texting, reviews, payments, phones or the Jerry AI BDC. Kenect and Dealer Funnel cover most of the texting and review work, Widewail covers reviews only, and Shiftix Cloud puts texting and review requests inside a CRM that works beside your DMS.
At a glance
- Kenect suits auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers that want to replace Podium almost one for one, with texting, reviews, text-to-pay and voice AI from one vendor and a long list of named dealer integrations.
- Dealer Funnel suits car dealerships that want an AI-assisted inbox for text, calls, chat and email that syncs with an existing dealer CRM, and that want published pricing.
- Widewail suits dealers that mainly used Podium for reviews and want review requests and human-written review responses, with texting handled somewhere else.
- Shiftix Cloud suits auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers that want customer texting, review requests and service payment links inside the CRM, with staff approving AI follow-up drafts.
- Before any demo, check your Podium order form for the renewal date, because Podium's standard terms describe a 12-month term that renews automatically unless you give 30 days' written notice.
How we compared Podium alternatives
We compared four dealer-focused alternatives on the same criteria for every option, using each vendor's own website. Shiftix Cloud publishes this guide and is one of the products compared.
- How options were chosen: the general "Podium alternatives" lists that rank in search, such as MessageDesk's Podium alternatives article, name tools built for dental offices, retail or software companies. We chose options that describe dealerships as a main market: one texting platform (Kenect), one dealer inbox (Dealer Funnel), one reviews specialist (Widewail) and Shiftix Cloud.
- Evidence: each vendor's own pages, read on October 23, 2026, plus Podium's published terms of service. Nothing was tested first-hand, and no vendor reviewed this guide.
- Criteria: what the product is, who it is built for, texting and inbox, reviews, payments, phone and AI calls, who approves AI messages, DMS and CRM integrations, whether pricing is published, and who it suits.
- "Not stated" means the pages we read did not cover a point. It does not mean the product lacks it.
- No prices. We say only whether each vendor publishes pricing.
What Podium does for dealerships, according to Podium
Podium sells dealerships a customer inbox, texting, reviews, payments and an AI employee called Jerry, and it says more than 6,000 dealerships use it. Podium is not a CRM or a DMS in its own description; its pages show it connecting to both.
- Texting and inbox: the Podium automotive texting page says it will "Bring every lead, from any source, into a single inbox," with webchat that starts a text conversation and two-way text campaigns.
- Reviews: the same page promotes "more reviews from easy textable invites."
- Payments: the same page lists payments alongside texts, calls and reviews in the mobile app.
- Phones: staff can "Make and receive calls from your business number(s) through the web and mobile app."
- AI: the Podium automotive site describes Jerry as "an AI BDC that works every sales and service lead 24/7" across text, phone calls, webchat, social and email, and says Jerry "follows up 100% autonomously." A separate agent for managers, Operator, is described with "nothing goes out until you approve it."
- Integrations: the texting page shows CDK Global, Reynolds and Reynolds, Dealertrack, VinSolutions, DealerSocket, Tekion, DealerVault and Titan DMS under "Connect the tools you already use." It does not say what data moves.
- Pricing: not published. The Podium pricing page asks for a custom quote.
- Contract: section 8.1 of the Podium terms of service sets an initial 12-month term that "will automatically renew for subsequent periods of equal duration" unless written notice of non-renewal is given at least 30 days before the term ends. Your own order form may differ, so read it first.
What you give up when you leave Podium: a function map
Leaving Podium means replacing up to seven separate jobs, and no option in this guide replaces all seven in the same way. List the jobs your store uses every week, then check each one against this map. The map reflects what each vendor's pages describe, not tested results.
- Two-way texting and shared inbox: Kenect, Dealer Funnel and Shiftix Cloud. Widewail does not describe a texting inbox.
- Website chat that turns into a text: Kenect (WebChat), Dealer Funnel (web chat) and Shiftix Cloud (Live Chat in the inbox).
- Review requests by text: Kenect and Widewail describe review invites by text, and Shiftix Cloud describes a review-request workflow by SMS and email. Dealer Funnel lists reputation management without further detail on the pages we read.
- Written responses to online reviews: Kenect (Review Responses) and Widewail (responses "written by real people"). Not stated for Shiftix Cloud.
- Text-to-pay: Kenect (Text to Pay and Pay Over Time) and Shiftix Cloud (SMS and email payment links on its service page). Not stated for Dealer Funnel or Widewail.
- Phone calls and voice AI: Kenect (Voice AI), Dealer Funnel (soft phone and voice AI) and Shiftix Cloud (inbound call routing and click-to-call, depending on voice setup). Widewail does not describe phones.
- An AI that answers leads on its own: Podium's Jerry is described as fully autonomous. Dealer Funnel describes an AI texting mode that sends replies. Shiftix Cloud's Aria AI Assistant drafts follow-up for staff to approve, which is a different way of working, not a like-for-like swap.
Texting-first alternatives: Kenect and Dealer Funnel
Kenect and Dealer Funnel are the two options here that replace Podium's texting inbox, review requests and phone work in one product. They differ most on which dealers they serve and how they price.
Kenect
- What it is: a texting, reputation and payments platform. The Kenect company page calls it "the leading AI platform for dealerships across North America."
- Built for: automotive, powersports, RV and trailer, marine, equipment and outdoor power dealers.
- Texting and inbox: Text Messaging, WebChat and Broadcast Messaging.
- Reviews: a Reputation Management Suite, Private Feedback and Review Responses.
- Payments: Text to Pay and Pay Over Time.
- Phone and AI calls: Voice AI is listed. A separate phone system is not described.
- AI and who approves: the Kenect Engage AI page describes service reminders, recall texts and pre-CSI check-ins, but does not say whether staff review messages before they send. Ask Kenect.
- DMS and CRM integrations: the Kenect integrations page names Dealertrack, VinSolutions, CDK eLead, CDK Drive, DealerSocket, Tekion, PBS, Autosoft, Lightspeed, DP360, DX1 and others, with a short note on what each sync covers.
- Pricing: not published on the pages we read.
- Who it suits: dealers that like Podium's mix of texting, reviews and payments and want the same mix from a vendor that names RV, marine and powersports systems.
Dealer Funnel
- What it is: an AI-assisted inbox for sales and service that the Dealer Funnel home page says "replaces the pile of point solutions most stores stack up beside the CRM." It syncs with a dealer CRM rather than replacing it.
- Built for: car dealerships. Its Podium comparison page says "Dealer Funnel does one industry." RV, marine and powersports are not stated.
- Texting and inbox: text, calls, web chat, email and Facebook in one inbox, plus mass texting and video messaging.
- Reviews: reputation management is listed.
- Payments: not stated.
- Phone and AI calls: a browser soft phone and voice AI that answers calls.
- AI and who approves: two modes. In the inbox, "nothing sends until a person hits send." The AI texting assistant "Drafts and sends real replies," with "Human takeover anytime."
- DMS and CRM integrations: two-way sync with VinSolutions, CDK Elead, Tekion, Reynolds and Reynolds, DealerSocket, ProMax and Cox Automotive is listed.
- Pricing: published, by lead volume, with month-to-month terms.
- Who it suits: car dealers that want to keep their current CRM and replace Podium's inbox and AI answering with a dealership-only product. Its Podium comparison page is a competitor's page, so verify its claims about Podium yourself.
Reviews-only and CRM-first alternatives: Widewail and Shiftix Cloud
Widewail and Shiftix Cloud each replace part of Podium in a different direction: Widewail goes deeper on reviews only, while Shiftix Cloud moves texting and review requests into the CRM.
Widewail
- What it is: a reputation management company for dealers. The Widewail automotive page describes review responses "written by real people," review requests by SMS and video testimonials.
- Built for: automotive dealers, on the pages we read.
- Texting and inbox: review-request texts only. A two-way texting inbox is not described.
- Reviews: review requests sent automatically from your system of record, with the order of sites (for example Google, Facebook, DealerRater, CarGurus and Edmunds) chosen by the dealer, as described on the Widewail review request page.
- Payments: not stated.
- Phone and AI calls: not described.
- AI and who approves: Widewail's automotive page presents its responses as human-written. Whether the dealer approves each response before posting is not stated.
- DMS and CRM integrations: DealerVault, CDK Global, Dealertrack, VinSolutions and DealerBuilt are among those named.
- Pricing: published per rooftop on the Widewail pricing page; the automotive page notes month-to-month terms are available.
- Who it suits: dealers whose main use of Podium was reviews and who already text customers from their CRM or another tool.
Shiftix Cloud
- What it is: a Customer Operations Platform with a CRM, the Unified Customer Inbox and Aria AI Assistant. Shiftix Cloud is not a DMS; the CRM page says "the DMS continues as the operational system of record."
- Built for: auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers.
- Texting and inbox: phone, email, SMS, website forms, Facebook Messenger and live chat can be brought into one inbox tied to the customer record. Opt-out keywords are "recognized, persisted, and honored permanently."
- Reviews: the Shiftix Cloud marketing page describes Review Builder, a review-request workflow by SMS and email after completed customer interactions, and the service page lists CSI and review requests after a visit. Responding to online reviews is not stated.
- Payments: the service page lists "SMS and email payment links for mobile checkout."
- Phone and AI calls: inbound call routing and click-to-call, depending on the voice setup enabled. Whether Aria AI Assistant answers calls by voice is not stated on the Aria AI Assistant page, so ask Shiftix.
- AI and who approves: Aria AI Assistant prepares SMS and email follow-up "for a team member to review and approve." The same page says it "replies to new leads in under a minute," so ask how first replies are set up for your store.
- DMS and CRM integrations: the Shiftix Cloud integrations page lists DMS platforms including CDK (Drive), Reynolds and Reynolds, Dealertrack, Tekion and Lightspeed, and says "availability, data direction, permissions, and setup are confirmed during implementation." It lists Kenect under communications and Google Business Profile under Google. Podium is not listed.
- Pricing: published on the Shiftix Cloud pricing page, with the top tier quoted by sales. Cost depends mainly on users, rooftops and communications capacity.
- Who it suits: dealers that want texting, review requests and service payment links in the same system as their leads and pipeline, and that want staff to approve AI follow-up rather than run a fully autonomous AI BDC.
Checklist before you leave Podium
A Podium exit goes smoothly when the contract, data, phone numbers and texting registration are handled before the new tool goes live. Work through these steps in order.
- Find your renewal date. Under Podium's standard terms, non-renewal notice must reach Podium at least 30 days before the term ends, and the terms name support@podium.com for that notice. Check your order form for different dates.
- Export your data while the account is live. Section 8.4.1 of the terms says you may export client data "at any time during the Subscription Term." After the term ends, access stops, and an export "may be available as a professional services engagement" if requested within 30 days.
- Plan the phone numbers. The FCC's number portability guide says that when you stay in the same area, "your old company cannot refuse to port your number, even if you owe money." Start the port with the new provider before cancelling anything, and confirm with both vendors whether your texting numbers port the same way as your voice lines.
- Re-register business texting. A new texting provider will need your brand and campaign registered for 10DLC. Our 10DLC registration guide for dealerships explains the steps.
- Carry over consent and opt-outs. Export the list of customers who texted STOP and load it into the new system before the first campaign. Our guide to dealership text messaging rules covers consent by type of text.
- Replace links customers already have. Review-request links, payment links and webchat code on your website all point at Podium. Swap them on the day you switch, and rebuild your review texts; our review request text templates can help.
- Decide what replaces Jerry. If Podium's AI answers your after-hours leads today, set up the new first reply before cutover. Our missed call text-back guide covers the wording for calls you cannot pick up.
If you want to see where leads and follow-up are slipping before you choose a replacement, the complimentary Revenue Leak Audit from Shiftix Cloud reviews lead response and follow-up with no obligation.
Which Podium alternative should you choose?
The right Podium alternative is the one that covers the jobs on your list without adding a second inbox your staff will ignore. Use these rules as a starting point.
- You want the same mix as Podium from another vendor: shortlist Kenect, especially for RV, marine and powersports stores.
- You are a car dealer happy with your CRM and want AI to answer calls and texts: shortlist Dealer Funnel, and confirm how its sending AI fits your approval rules.
- You only used Podium for reviews: shortlist Widewail and keep texting in your CRM.
- You want texting, review requests and payment links in the CRM, with staff approving AI drafts: shortlist Shiftix Cloud's Unified Customer Inbox and CRM. If you are also replacing your CRM, our guide to choosing a CRM for car dealerships scores the options on one checklist.
- Your store depends on a fully autonomous AI BDC: none of the alternatives above is described in the same way as Podium's Jerry. Ask each vendor to show what its AI sends without a person, and decide whether you want that.
Frequently asked questions
Is Podium a CRM?
Podium does not describe itself as a dealership CRM. Its automotive site calls it an AI operating system that responds to leads, and its texting page shows CRM and DMS logos such as VinSolutions and DealerSocket under connecting the tools you already use. Podium's FAQ lists the question of whether it replaces your CRM, but no answer was visible when we read it, so ask Podium directly.
Does Podium publish its pricing?
No. Podium's pricing page asks dealers to choose an industry and request a custom quote, and it does not list plans or figures. Ask for a written quote that separates texting, reviews, payments, phones and the AI employee, and ask how the renewal term in your order form compares with the 12-month term in Podium's standard terms of service.
Does Podium work for RV, marine and powersports dealers?
Podium's automotive pages are written for car dealers and do not mention RV, marine or powersports stores. Its pricing page lists auto dealerships, home services, aesthetics and retail as industries. RV, boat and powersports dealers should ask Podium which dealer systems it connects to, because the integrations shown are mainly car-dealer systems.
Do Google reviews disappear if a dealership cancels Podium?
No. Reviews that customers posted on Google live on the dealership's Google Business Profile, not inside Podium, so they stay when the subscription ends. What stops working are Podium's review-request links, its reporting and any review responses scheduled through it, so export your review history and set up the new request flow before you cancel.
Find where leads slip before you change texting tools
A new texting or reviews tool fixes some problems and carries others over. The Revenue Leak Audit from Shiftix Cloud is complimentary, with no obligation and no software purchase required. It looks at lead response, follow-up, conversion, customer retention, accountability and workflow, and Shiftix walks through the findings with you, whichever tool you choose.
