VinSolutions Alternatives: Five Dealership CRMs and a Cox Connection Map
Compare five VinSolutions CRM alternatives on the same criteria, then map the Cox Automotive tools you use, from vAuto to Dealertrack, before you switch.
The best VinSolutions CRM alternative depends on how much of the Cox Automotive stack your store uses. CDK Elead CRM and Tekion CRM come from DMS vendors. DriveCentric, AutoRaptor and Shiftix Cloud are independent CRMs that work beside your DMS. This guide compares all five with VinSolutions Connect CRM and shows which Cox connections to map before you switch.
At a glance
- VinSolutions Connect CRM still suits stores that rely on Cox Automotive products such as Dealertrack DMS, vAuto, Xtime and Dealer.com, because VinSolutions names those as integrations.
- CDK Elead CRM and Tekion CRM suit stores that want a large-vendor CRM, and Tekion CRM in particular suits stores already on, or moving to, Tekion's DMS.
- DriveCentric suits stores that want texting, email and live video at the center of the CRM, with an AI agent that engages new leads around the clock.
- AutoRaptor suits independent and high-volume stores that want fast AI lead response with human approval on every send.
- Shiftix Cloud suits auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers who want a CRM and Unified Customer Inbox beside their DMS, with Aria AI Assistant drafts that staff approve.
How we compared VinSolutions alternatives
We compared five VinSolutions alternatives that are built for dealerships, because the general-purpose CRMs on most ranking alternatives lists do not describe DMS connections or dealership lead handling. Shiftix Cloud publishes this guide and is one of the products compared.
- Evidence: each vendor's own website, read in October 2026. Nothing was tested first-hand, and no vendor reviewed this guide.
- Criteria: what the product is, lead handling, texting and email, DMS connection, AI and who controls it, help with switching, whether pricing is published, and who it suits.
- "Not stated" means the pages we read did not cover a point. It does not mean the product lacks it.
- No prices. We say only whether each vendor publishes pricing.
- Vendor statistics left out. VinSolutions and other vendors publish performance figures about their own products. We did not repeat them, because we could not check how they were measured.
For a wider scoring method that covers six dealership CRMs, see our guide to the best CRM for car dealerships. This guide is narrower: it is for stores on VinSolutions that are weighing a move.
What VinSolutions Connect CRM offers, according to VinSolutions
VinSolutions Connect CRM is a dealership CRM that VinSolutions describes as "powered by Cox Automotive," and its own pages present it as part of a wider set of connected Cox products.
- What it is: a dealership CRM sold alongside VinSolutions Connect Desking, an AI product and a marketing platform, according to the VinSolutions home page.
- Lead handling: the Connect CRM page says it automates follow-ups with recent customers and leads and lets managers assign tasks to sales staff.
- Texting and email: email and text templates for assigned tasks. MMS messaging, call tracking and video marketing are listed as add-ons.
- Mobile: the Connect CRM page says staff can work the deal and respond to customers from any device.
- DMS connection: the VinSolutions integrations page names Dealertrack DMS as the DMS it connects to, and says customer records sync and merge between the two. Other DMS providers are not named there; the home page refers to "Native DMS, IMS, Service, and F&I integrations."
- AI and staff control: the VinSolutions AI page says GenAI drafts emails and texts and that "your team reviews, edits, and approves messages before they are sent." A separate Virtual Contact Assistant engages shoppers 24/7, and the page says the dealer controls how and when it engages.
- Training: the site lists New User Onboarding, Live Training and a Performance Management service.
- Pricing: not published. Buyers are directed to a demo.
The point that matters most for a switch is the Cox connection list. The VinSolutions integrations page names Autotrader, Dealer.com, Dealertrack, Kelley Blue Book, Xtime, vAuto and Deal Central, plus third-party partners such as A2Z Sync, Activator, Anaphora, AutoFi and Automotive Mastermind. A store that uses several of these is replacing more than a CRM.
Map your Cox Automotive connections before you compare
A VinSolutions switch goes more smoothly when you list every Cox Automotive and partner connection your store uses before you look at demos. The map below is our recommendation, not a vendor requirement. For each connection, write down who uses it, what data it sends to or takes from VinSolutions, and what the new CRM vendor says in writing.
Dealertrack DMS
- What VinSolutions says: customer records sync and merge between Dealertrack DMS and VinSolutions CRM.
- Ask the new vendor: do you list Dealertrack as a DMS connection by name, which records move, in which direction, and how often?
- Ask Cox: what access, approval or fees apply when a non-Cox CRM connects to your Dealertrack DMS?
vAuto and inventory
- What VinSolutions says: vAuto is named among its Cox Automotive integrations.
- Ask the new vendor: can you take an inventory feed from vAuto or your DMS, and how quickly do price and status changes appear in the CRM?
- Check in the demo: open a lead on a used vehicle and confirm the vehicle details match your live inventory.
Autotrader, Kelley Blue Book and Dealer.com leads
- What VinSolutions says: its marketing automation is integrated with Kelley Blue Book, Autotrader and Dealer.com.
- Ask the new vendor: can each of these post leads into your CRM, and will the lead source be recorded so you can still report on it?
- Check at cutover: send a test lead from each source and from your website forms, and confirm it arrives and is assigned.
Xtime and service
- What VinSolutions says: Xtime is named among its Cox Automotive integrations.
- Ask the new vendor: will sales staff see service appointments and history, and will service customers' opt-outs carry across both departments?
Desking, Deal Central and partner tools
- What VinSolutions says: it sells Connect Desking and Cox Automotive Deal Central, and lists partner integrations such as AutoFi and Automotive Mastermind.
- Ask yourself: which of these does your team use every day, and which can you drop? A partner tool connected to VinSolutions does not automatically connect to a new CRM.
- Ask each partner: do you connect to the CRM you are considering, and is there a separate fee?
Once the map is done, you will know whether you are leaving one product or several. That answer often decides the shortlist more than any feature list.
VinSolutions alternatives from DMS vendors: CDK Elead CRM and Tekion CRM
CDK Elead CRM and Tekion CRM come from companies that also sell a DMS, which matters if you are changing DMS at the same time as your CRM.
CDK Elead CRM
- What it is: CDK Global's dealership CRM. The CDK Elead CRM overview calls it "a fully integrated cloud-based CRM." That overview carries a 2023 copyright, so check current features with CDK.
- Lead handling: customized auto-responders that send vehicle details, photos and alternative vehicles; telephony integration that "tracks, logs and maps all incoming calls, including missed calls."
- Texting and email: not stated on the overview we read.
- DMS connection: "fast and flexible integration with all major DMS providers." Dealertrack is not named.
- AI and staff control: not stated on the overview we read.
- Switching help: online or on-site training and customer support; data migration is not stated.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: franchise stores that want another established, large-vendor automotive CRM. Our Elead CRM alternatives guide covers Elead in more depth.
Tekion CRM
- What it is: the CRM in Tekion's Automotive Retail Cloud (ARC). The Tekion CRM page says it "is natively built into the dealership platform."
- Lead handling: scoring to capture, prioritize and route leads automatically, with controls for routing leads across stores.
- Texting and email: "Email, SMS, and personalized outreach," built into sales and service workflows.
- DMS connection: "CRM is an extension of your DMS, not bolted on." The page does not say whether Tekion CRM works with another vendor's DMS, such as Dealertrack.
- AI and staff control: AI-assisted messaging and suggested replies. The page does not say whether staff approve individual AI messages before they are sent.
- Switching help: discovery sessions, first-pass data conversion and "final data conversion with full live support" at go-live.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: stores moving their DMS to Tekion as well as their CRM. Our Tekion CRM alternatives guide explains the built-in versus separate CRM decision.
Independent VinSolutions alternatives: DriveCentric, AutoRaptor and Shiftix Cloud
DriveCentric, AutoRaptor and Shiftix Cloud are not owned by a DMS vendor, and each leads with customer messaging, AI-assisted response or a shared inbox.
DriveCentric
- What it is: a dealership CRM that the DriveCentric home page calls "the CRM your dealership wants to use."
- Lead handling: automated follow-ups, service reminders and trade-in offers after the sale.
- Texting and email: built-in texting, email and live video.
- DMS connection: the DriveCentric integrations page names nine DMS providers, including Dealertrack, CDK Global, Reynolds and Reynolds and Tekion, and advertises 100+ integrations. VinSolutions and other Cox products are not named there.
- AI and staff control: an AI agent described as "a virtual team member that engages new leads automatically (24/7)." An approval step is not stated.
- Switching help: not stated.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: stores on Dealertrack or another named DMS that want texting, video and automated engagement at the center of the CRM.
AutoRaptor
- What it is: a dealership CRM whose AI Sales Assistant page names independent dealerships and high-volume dealerships as users.
- Lead handling: an AI assistant that, according to AutoRaptor, responds to inbound leads by text, email and chat, books appointments and escalates to a person when a lead asks for one.
- Texting and email: text, email and chat through the AI assistant and the compose window.
- DMS connection: the AutoRaptor integrations page says it connects "customer, deal, and dealership data between AutoRaptor and your DMS workflow" and lists 80+ lead source and dealership integrations. Specific DMS providers are not named in the wording we read.
- AI and staff control: "Human approval on every send," with business rules, scripts, tone, hours and routing set in admin settings.
- Switching help: integrations are "fully configured during onboarding." Moving data from another CRM is not stated.
- Pricing: the AutoRaptor pricing page shows tiers by user count, with figures given on request.
- Who it suits: independent and high-volume stores that want fast AI response with a person approving each message.
Shiftix Cloud
- What it is: a Customer Operations Platform that works alongside a dealer's DMS, ERP and accounting systems. It is not a DMS. Its CRM sits beside the Unified Customer Inbox.
- Lead handling: condition-based routing by source, vehicle type, location or round-robin, with assignment gap monitoring, follow-up reminders, and aging and stall flags.
- Texting and email: phone, email, SMS, website forms, Facebook Messenger and live chat can be brought together in one inbox. STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE and similar keywords are honored permanently for Shiftix-managed messaging. Number porting is scoped during setup.
- DMS connection: the Shiftix Cloud integrations page lists Dealertrack as a DMS integration. It also lists vAuto, DealerTrack DMS and VinSolutions as inventory feeds, and AutoTrader as a lead source. The page says availability, data direction, permissions and setup are confirmed during implementation.
- AI and staff control: the Aria AI Assistant drafts follow-up and summarizes call context. It is human-controlled: staff review and approve before anything is sent.
- Switching help: the integrations page describes a one-time migration from a previous CRM where supported, covering available customer records, opportunities, notes and activity history. It does not name VinSolutions as a migration source, so confirm scope during setup.
- Pricing: published on the Shiftix Cloud pricing page. That page says data cleanup and complex migrations may need a separately scoped implementation fee, agreed before work begins.
- Who it suits: auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers who want CRM, messaging and AI drafts in one place without changing their DMS.
If you are not yet sure whether the CRM is the real problem, the Revenue Leak Audit is a complimentary, no-obligation review of lead response, follow-up and retention that you can run before booking demos.
Switching from VinSolutions: what to settle first
A VinSolutions switch is safest when contracts, exports, consent records and lead routing are settled before the new CRM goes live. These steps are our recommendation; our Elead switching checklist covers the same stages in more detail, and most of it applies to any CRM.
- Contracts: find the end date and notice period for VinSolutions and for each Cox product on your connection map. They may not end on the same day.
- Exports: ask Cox in writing which records you can export (customers, open opportunities, notes, call logs, texts, emails), in what format, and how long you keep access after the end date.
- Opt-outs: export text and email opt-outs and load them into the new CRM before any message goes out. Under the FCC rules, customers can revoke consent by any reasonable means unless the sender designates an exclusive method, and requests must be honored within 10 business days, as summarized by Troutman Pepper Locke in September 2026. The FCC revised these rules in 2026, so confirm current requirements with your counsel.
- Security terms: the FTC's Safeguards Rule guidance says that for covered businesses, contracts with service providers "must spell out your security expectations." Review the new vendor's terms before you sign.
- Lead sources: re-point every source on your map, send a test lead from each, and agree a cutoff after which no one works leads in VinSolutions.
- Phone numbers: ask both vendors whether the numbers customers already text and call can be ported, and how long it takes.
- First 30 days: compare first-response time and appointment counts with your VinSolutions baseline. Our speed to lead research summary explains why response time is worth tracking.
Which VinSolutions alternative should you choose?
The right VinSolutions alternative follows from your Cox connection map and from how much of first response you want AI to handle.
- You rely on many Cox products and they work well: staying on VinSolutions may cost less disruption than leaving. Use the map to fix gaps in how you use it.
- You are changing your DMS too: compare Tekion CRM if you are moving to Tekion, and check how any CRM connects to the new DMS by name. Our CRM vs DMS guide explains which system should own which records.
- You are keeping Dealertrack DMS: shortlist vendors whose own pages name Dealertrack, such as DriveCentric and Shiftix Cloud, and ask what syncs.
- You want AI response with a person approving each message: compare AutoRaptor and Shiftix Cloud, and ask DriveCentric and Tekion how approval works in their products.
- You run more than one vertical, such as auto and RV: check which vendors serve every store you run. Shiftix Cloud serves auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers; see the Shiftix Cloud auto page for car dealers.
Frequently asked questions
Is VinSolutions part of Cox Automotive?
Yes. VinSolutions describes its Connect CRM as powered by Cox Automotive, and its website lists other Cox Automotive brands such as Autotrader, Dealer.com, Dealertrack, Kelley Blue Book, vAuto and Xtime. That is why leaving VinSolutions can affect connections to other Cox tools your store uses, not only the CRM itself.
Does VinSolutions work with DMS providers other than Dealertrack?
VinSolutions does not name another DMS on the integrations page we read in October 2026. That page names Dealertrack DMS and says customer records sync and merge with it, while the VinSolutions home page refers more generally to native DMS integrations. If you run a different DMS, ask VinSolutions to confirm the connection and what it syncs in writing.
How much does VinSolutions CRM cost?
VinSolutions does not publish CRM pricing on the pages we read, and buyers are directed to a demo. Dealership CRM cost usually depends on the number of users and rooftops, the modules chosen, add-ons such as texting or call tracking, and any DMS connection fees. Ask each vendor for a written quote that lists these items separately.
Can you keep using vAuto if you leave VinSolutions?
Possibly, but it depends on your Cox contracts and on the new CRM. VinSolutions lists vAuto as a separate Cox Automotive product, so check its contract terms on their own. Then ask the new CRM vendor whether it takes a vAuto inventory feed. Shiftix Cloud's integrations page lists vAuto as an inventory feed; confirm setup for your store.
Find where leads slip before you switch CRMs
A new CRM fixes some problems and carries others over. The Revenue Leak Audit from Shiftix Cloud is complimentary, with no obligation and no software purchase required. It looks at lead response, follow-up, conversion, customer retention, accountability and workflow, and Shiftix walks through the findings with you, whichever CRM you choose.
