Tekion CRM Alternatives for Dealers: Four Options and a Tekion DMS Checklist
Compare Tekion CRM with four dealership CRM alternatives on the same criteria, then use our checklist for connecting a separate CRM to a Tekion DMS.
The right Tekion CRM alternative depends on one decision: keep the CRM inside Tekion's dealer platform, or run a separate CRM beside your DMS. Tekion builds its CRM into its own platform. VinSolutions, DriveCentric, CDK Elead CRM and Shiftix Cloud are separate CRMs. This guide compares all five on the same criteria.
At a glance
- Tekion CRM suits dealers already on, or moving to, Tekion's Automotive Retail Cloud, because Tekion describes its CRM as an extension of its DMS.
- VinSolutions Connect CRM suits franchise stores that want an established CRM from Cox Automotive, with GenAI drafts that staff review and approve before sending.
- DriveCentric suits stores that want texting, email and live video at the center of the CRM, and its integrations page lists Tekion as a DMS.
- CDK Elead CRM suits stores that want a long-established CRM from another large vendor; CDK describes integration with all major DMS providers but does not name them.
- Shiftix Cloud suits auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers who want a CRM and Unified Customer Inbox beside their DMS, and its integrations page lists Tekion among its DMS platforms.
How we compared Tekion CRM alternatives
We compared Tekion CRM with four dealership CRMs that are sold separately from a DMS, because a store that runs Tekion's DMS but wants a different CRM needs one that can sit beside it. Shiftix Cloud publishes this guide and is one of the products compared.
- Evidence: each vendor's own website, read in October 2026. Nothing was tested first-hand, and no vendor reviewed this guide.
- Criteria: what the product is, lead handling, texting and email, whether the vendor's own pages name Tekion as a DMS connection, AI and who approves AI messages, help with switching, whether pricing is published, and who it suits.
- "Not stated" means the pages we read did not cover a point. It does not mean the product lacks it.
- No prices. We say only whether each vendor publishes pricing.

What Tekion CRM offers, according to Tekion
Tekion CRM is the customer relationship module of Tekion's Automotive Retail Cloud (ARC), and the Tekion CRM page says it is "natively built into the dealership platform."
- What it is: an AI-assisted dealership CRM that Tekion calls "an extension of your DMS, not bolted on," with one customer record shared across sales, service, marketing and accounting.
- Lead handling: lead scoring, routing and prioritization, plus an AI-generated "Lead Snapshot" with recommended next steps. Enterprise groups can control how leads are accepted and routed across stores.
- Texting and email: email, SMS and personalized outreach, including always-on email and text campaigns. Phone features are not stated on the CRM page.
- Tekion DMS connection: built in, since the CRM and DMS are parts of the same platform.
- AI and staff control: suggested replies, follow-up timing and performance alerts. Whether staff must approve AI-written messages before they are sent is not stated.
- Switching help: a five-phase rollout that includes a "first-pass data conversion," training, and "final data conversion with full live support" at go-live, followed by a hypercare period.
- Pricing: not published on the CRM page.
- Who it suits: dealers who run, or plan to run, Tekion's DMS and want CRM and DMS data in one system.
Tekion's CRM also has OEM recognition: a Tekion press release from April 2025, republished by Silicon UK, says US Toyota and Lexus dealers can choose Tekion as their CRM provider within the SmartPath/MONOGRAM program. Franchise dealers should check their own OEM's approved CRM list before choosing any option in this guide.
The first decision: Tekion's built-in CRM or a separate CRM
Choosing between Tekion's built-in CRM and a separate CRM comes down to whether one shared customer record matters more to your store than the specific sales and messaging tools a separate CRM offers.
What a built-in CRM gives you
- One customer record across sales, service and accounting, which Tekion presents as avoiding duplicates.
- One vendor for the DMS and CRM, with one implementation and one support relationship.
- No connection between two vendors to set up, approve or maintain.
What a separate CRM gives you
- A choice of CRM based on how your sales team, BDC or service drive works, rather than on which DMS you run.
- The option to keep your CRM if you change DMS later, or to change CRM without touching the DMS.
- For multi-vertical groups, one CRM across stores that may run different DMS products.
The trade-off to plan for
A separate CRM depends on a working connection to the Tekion DMS. Tekion runs a partner integration program, the Automotive Partner Cloud (APC), which describes APIs and webhooks for real-time sync and three partner tiers (Standard, Enterprise and Strategic) that differ in API access and rate limits. The APC page does not say which CRMs connect through it, so ask each CRM vendor how its Tekion connection works rather than assuming.
Tekion CRM alternatives compared on the same criteria
VinSolutions, DriveCentric, CDK Elead CRM and Shiftix Cloud are all sold separately from a DMS, but only two of them name Tekion as a DMS on the pages we read.
VinSolutions Connect CRM
- What it is: a dealership CRM from VinSolutions, "powered by Cox Automotive," according to the Connect CRM page.
- Lead handling: automated follow-ups with recent customers and leads, and task assignment for sales staff.
- Texting and email: email and text templates; MMS texting with automation is listed as an add-on.
- Tekion named as a DMS connection: no. The VinSolutions integrations page names Dealertrack DMS only.
- AI and staff control: the VinSolutions AI page says GenAI drafts emails and texts when activated, and "your team reviews, edits, and approves messages before they are sent."
- Switching help: not stated; new-user onboarding training is offered.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: franchise stores that want a large-vendor CRM and can confirm a Tekion connection with VinSolutions.
DriveCentric
- What it is: a dealership CRM that the DriveCentric home page calls "the CRM your dealership wants to use."
- Lead handling: post-sale follow-up with automated follow-ups, service reminders and trade-in offers.
- Texting and email: built-in texting, email and live video.
- Tekion named as a DMS connection: yes. The DriveCentric integrations page lists Tekion under DMS, alongside CDK Global, Reynolds and Reynolds, Dealertrack and others. The page does not say what data moves.
- AI and staff control: an AI agent described as "a virtual team member that engages new leads automatically (24/7)." An approval step is not stated.
- Switching help: not stated.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: stores that want messaging and video at the center of the CRM and automated first response.
CDK Elead CRM
- What it is: CDK Global's dealership CRM, which the CDK Elead overview calls "a fully integrated cloud-based CRM." The overview carries a 2023 copyright, so confirm current features with CDK.
- Lead handling: customized auto-responders with vehicle details, photos and alternative vehicles; telephony integration that tracks and logs incoming and missed calls.
- Texting and email: not stated on the overview.
- Tekion named as a DMS connection: not named. CDK describes "integration with all major DMS providers" without listing them.
- AI and staff control: not stated on the overview.
- Switching help: online or on-site training and customer support.
- Pricing: not published.
- Who it suits: stores that want a large-vendor CRM and will confirm the Tekion connection with CDK in writing.
Shiftix Cloud
- What it is: a Customer Operations Platform that works alongside a dealer's DMS, ERP and accounting systems. Shiftix Cloud is not a DMS. Its CRM sits beside the Unified Customer Inbox, and the CRM page says the DMS "continues as the operational system of record."
- Lead handling: condition-based routing by source, vehicle type, location or round-robin, with assignment gap monitoring, follow-up reminders, and aging and stall flags.
- Texting and email: phone, email, SMS, website forms, Facebook Messenger and live chat in one inbox. STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE and equivalent keywords are honored permanently for Shiftix-managed messaging.
- Tekion named as a DMS connection: yes. The Shiftix Cloud integrations page lists Tekion under DMS Platforms. That page calls named providers examples of potential connection targets, not a guarantee of a one-click connector, and says availability, data direction, permissions and setup are confirmed during implementation.
- AI and staff control: the Aria AI Assistant drafts follow-up and summarizes call context. It is human-controlled: staff review and approve before anything is sent.
- Switching help: the integrations page describes a one-time migration from a previous CRM covering customers, leads, opportunities, notes, activities and history where supported. It does not name Tekion CRM as a source, so confirm scope during setup.
- Pricing: published on the Shiftix Cloud pricing page, which says data cleanup, complex migrations and custom integrations may need a separately scoped implementation fee agreed before work begins.
- Who it suits: auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers who want CRM, messaging and AI drafts in one place without changing their DMS.

Questions to ask before connecting a separate CRM to a Tekion DMS
Connecting a separate CRM to a Tekion DMS works best when the connection is confirmed in writing before you sign, because integration pages rarely say what data moves. The questions below are our recommendation, not a requirement from Tekion or any CRM vendor.
Questions for the CRM vendor
- Do you connect to Tekion today, and how many stores run your CRM on a Tekion DMS?
- Does the connection run through Tekion's Automotive Partner Cloud, and at which partner tier?
- Which records move (customers, vehicles sold, service history, open repair orders), in which direction, and how often?
- How are duplicate customer records matched and merged between the two systems?
- Do opt-outs and consent records sync, and which system is the master for them?
- Can you import history from Tekion CRM, and which records are included?
Questions for Tekion
- Is the CRM vendor an approved APC partner for our stores, and what will it be able to read or write?
- Are there any fees for the integration or for API access on our account?
- If we stop using Tekion CRM, what export of customer, lead and message history can we get, and in what format?
Checks for the dealership
- Review and approve the integration yourself. Tekion's July 2025 APC 2.0 announcement says its Integration Hub lets dealers review, approve and manage partner integrations and track who accesses their data.
- Check your OEM's approved CRM list if you are a franchise store, since OEM digital retail programs may name approved providers.
- Send a test lead from each source after go-live and confirm it lands in the new CRM with the right owner.
- Confirm opted-out customers are not texted from the new CRM. Our guide to dealership text messaging covers consent and opt-out practice.
Which Tekion CRM alternative should you choose?
The right choice follows from whether you are committed to Tekion's DMS, and how much you need from a CRM that Tekion's built-in module does not provide.
- On Tekion's DMS and happy with one platform: stay with Tekion CRM, and ask Tekion how staff approve AI-suggested messages.
- On Tekion's DMS but wanting a different CRM: shortlist CRMs whose own pages name Tekion, such as DriveCentric and Shiftix Cloud, then put the questions above to each one.
- Wanting a large-vendor CRM: ask VinSolutions and CDK to confirm a Tekion connection in writing before you compare features.
- Running more than one vertical, such as auto and RV: check which CRM serves every store you run; Shiftix Cloud serves auto, RV, marine and powersports dealers.
- Not sure the CRM is the problem: measure response time and follow-up first. Our automotive CRM guide explains what any dealership CRM should do and what drives its cost.
Frequently asked questions
Is Tekion CRM part of the Tekion DMS?
Yes, Tekion presents its CRM as part of the same platform. Tekion's CRM page says the CRM is natively built into its Automotive Retail Cloud and calls it an extension of the DMS, sharing one customer record across sales, service, marketing and accounting. The page does not say whether Tekion CRM can be bought without the Tekion DMS, so ask Tekion directly.
Can you use a different CRM with a Tekion DMS?
Some CRM vendors say so. DriveCentric and Shiftix Cloud both list Tekion as a DMS on their integrations pages, and Tekion runs a partner program, the Automotive Partner Cloud, for third-party integrations. Integration pages rarely say which records move or how often, so get each vendor to confirm the Tekion connection, its data and any fees in writing.
Does Tekion publish CRM pricing?
No, Tekion's CRM page does not publish pricing. Dealership CRM cost usually depends on the number of users and rooftops, the modules chosen, messaging volume and any integration or API fees. Ask for a written quote that lists each of these, and compare quotes from different vendors on the same basis.
Is Tekion an approved CRM for Toyota dealers?
Yes, according to Tekion's April 2025 announcement. The release says Toyota and Lexus dealers in the United States can choose Tekion's Automotive Retail Cloud as their CRM provider within the SmartPath and MONOGRAM digital retail program. OEM approved-provider lists change, so Toyota and Lexus dealers should confirm the current list with Toyota.
Find where leads slip before you change CRMs
A new CRM fixes some problems and carries others over. The Revenue Leak Audit from Shiftix Cloud is complimentary, with no obligation and no software purchase required. It looks at lead response, follow-up, conversion, customer retention, accountability and workflow, and Shiftix walks through the findings with you, whichever CRM and DMS you run.
